Mammoth-St Anthony Mine, St. Anthony Deposit, Tiger, Mammoth District, Pinal Co., Arizona, USA
"An intergrown cluster of light blue leadhillite crystals to about a cm. I think this may be the best one ever found at Tiger. Got this specimen when Jack Streeter sold me his best Tiger things in 1972 for $500. The $500 was for about six fabulous specimens that have stood the test of time as the best or nearly the best of their kind. Jack was a traveling salesman he was able to visit the Tiger mine while servicing his territory in the early days and was able to buy some good specimens from the miners."
- Rock H. Currier
It is rumored that a powder box, left by miners just before the mine closed, contained choice Leadhillite specimens that they fully intended to return for. This legendary and elusive 'treasure chest' supposedly still resides on the 300-foot level of the Mammoth-St. Anthony Mine. Several expeditions via previously accessible portions of the workings attempted to reach the area, but were foiled by collapsing sections of the mine that became increasingly dangerous and unstable as the target area was approached. They never made it to the 300-level. If this legendary box truly was left there for later retrieval, then it contains a small fortune in Leadhillite. Meanwhile the incredibly few examples that managed to survive the passage of time generate intense interest, if not outright lust, from sophisticated collectors. It has a custom acrylic stand.
