    Gartrellite Pseudomorph after Mimetite
Level 12, Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

Besides being a very rare mineral, Gartrellite has the distinction of being involved with Time Travel. The facts are that this exact specimen was found on the 12th Level of the Tsumeb Mine about 1910. Gartrellite was described by a group of Aussies in 1989. This means that this specimen didn't exist in 1910. Only time travel can explain this. All kidding aside this is very probably the first Gartrellite specimen to be recognized as such from Tsumeb, as the label from the Gebhard Collection implies. A few examples of this rare species have since been identified from there. Besides the historical aspect of the piece, it should be mentioned that it is a very rich example of the species and it is one of the few associated with Mimetite. There is a considerable amount of old labels accompanying the piece, all indicating a long residence in Germany and/or Namibia. This luscious example is a 'must have' for any serious Tsumeb collector.
    Measurements: 3.3 x 3.0 x 2.2 inches (8.4 x 7.6 x 5.7 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

Provenance: Rainbow of Africa Collection, Ex. Gebhard Collection
