Almandine is the Iron-rich species of the Garnet group, and the Alpine examples are particularly large and fine. This cluster features a handsome grouping of four rhombic dodecahedral crystals, all with a deep mahogany red color. This single Almandine is embedded in a metallic grey-green schist, over host rock. Unlike the vast majority of alpine Almandine, this specimen actually appears to have all natural faces: most are lightly buffed or polished in some way, making this specimen especially desirable. The luster is very good, and all edges fantastically well-defined and sharp.
