Description
Fluorite, QuartzDalnegorsk, Dalnegorsk Urban District, Primorsky Krai, Russia
8.0 x 5.2 x 5.1 cm (3.13 x 2.03 x 2.01 in)
The silhouette of this Dalnegorsk Fluorite is unique: the cubes crest over the matrix like a hill, creating an overall-smooth shape despite the straight-edge, geometric shape of the Fluorites themselves. As with the best of the Dalnegorsk Fluorite specimens, these cubes are completely water-clear, to the point where you can see through any part of the specimen, all the way through to the matrix of Quartz and iron oxides in the back. This clarity creates a strong optical quality, not a double image like in some Calcites, but rather something more multidimensional due to the interlocking, but still isolated crystals. The Fluorite crystals are perfect cubes, with no modifications, bevels, or truncations (all of which being desirable qualities, but with a specimen as crisp as this, you want simple and clean). The backside has a spray of milky white Quartz points as an accent. The cherry on top: a euhedral, geometrically perfect Galena crystal, in the modified form of a truncated dodecahedron. Remarkable! There are a few small nicks and chipped corners.
