Description
Fluorite
Greenlaws Mine, Daddry Shield, Weardale, County Durham, England,
UK
7.7 x 6.7 x 3.2 cm (3.03 x 2.64 x 1.26 inches)
A wonderful small cabinet sized display quality specimen of this
contemporary classic material, thus specimen has many good quality,
translucent cubes of purple colored Fluorite, from recent mining at
the Greenlaws Mine in Weardale. The largest Fluorite measures 3.0
cm on edge. The majority of the crystals feature very attractive,
displaying characteristic, white "snowflake"-esque or "spider
web"-like inclusions, creating an almost ethereal quality. The
display side of the specimen is pristine. The reverse side of the
specimen is recrystallized, so the piece is "complete" nearly all
the way around. Additionally, the piece glows under SW UV light,
which is often seen in these crystals. Overall, this is a very
attractive and eye-catching specimen of this classic contemporary
material.
