Description

Elbaite, Lepidolite
Paprok, Kamdesh District, Nuristan, Afghanistan
8.2 x 2.4 x 1.9 cm (3.23 x 0.95 x 0.75 in)

The coloration in this Elbaite specimen is super vibrant, showing a distinct contrast between two terminations (yes, this is doubly-terminated!) one light pink, and one apple green. Small clusters of white, near-metallic Lepidolite crystals stand out against the bright pink of the Elbaite. The termination at the tip of this piece is well-defined and beautifully modified, and brightened by the green color. The transparency of this more complex termination accentuates the sheen and reflectivity within the crystal. Though subtle, the frosty, flat termination of the specimen has a colorless zone with a hint of light green. Much of the Elbaite has a vitreous luster that makes the piece look even more juicy; however, the side with the smaller of the Elbaite growths has more of a matte luster and is covered with dazzling microcrystals. There is one slight bruise on the termination and three minor spots of damage along the edges of the flat faces.
