    Description

    Chalcopyrite
    Tonglushan Mine, Daye Co.
    Huangshi, Hubei
    China

Resembling the old "Blister" Coppers from Cornwall, UK or Connecticut, but larger and more visually impressive, these Chalcopyrite "Balls" from the Tonglushan Mine in China are all the rage these days. The formations and myriad of colors have captivated collectors. Critics challenge a natural origin, but there is no good argument against the material being legitimate. Scientific studies are underway on this unique form of Chalcopyrite. This very attractive example consists of a cluster of eight sphericules of various sizes and colors. Each round component has a sparkling aspect like glitter to its exterior shell. This association consists of essentially three blue, two red and three gold globes of Chalcopyrite with size ranging from pea to grape. This unique form can be placed in any number of positions like some child's toy which is loosely resembles. Several of the shiny orbs have a round dimple and only two or three have any considerable missing "skin" over the surfaces. The color, form and charm result in an extremely unusual and highly collectible association sure to be a conversation piece in a display case.
    Measurements: 2.09 x 1.93 x 1.52 inches (5.32 x 4.90 x 3.87 cm)
