Mt. Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Mianyang Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China

Besides the world class Scheelites, Mt. Xuebaoding has furnished some of the finest Cassiterites ever found. They are justly famous for their perfection of form and brilliant luster. This group of dead black, fan shaped crystals is very close to being a "floater" specimen: one showing no signs of attachment to the wall rock. Here, the only attachment is a small area at the base of the specimen. Many complex growth figures grace all surfaces of the crystal group. Condition is pristine. The largest crystal is approximately 4.8 cm across, and it shows well from all angles - truly a 360 degree specimen.
