Conselheira Pena, Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Discovered in a phosphate-enriched zone at the Córrego Frio Mine in 1944, this transparent green mineral has become a required member of any collection of Brazilian minerals. The striking color, large size, high degree of transparency and glassy luster make this specimen a prime example. Over 3 inches (7.8 cm) across it shows two brilliantly glassy faces with interesting growth figures and two prism faces that are covered with parallel striations. On the bottom are some colorless Muscovite blades, white crystalized Albite and an accession number "1289". There is a note in the dealer files that this was collected in the 1960s. There are some minor nicks and no matrix to speak of. It is in fine to excellent condition.
    Overall measurements: 3 x 2 x 1.5 inches (7.6 x 5.1 x 3.8 cm).

Provenance: Western Minerals [Hoppel # D0555]
