Description

Aquamarine with Schorl
Shigar Valley, Shigar District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
7.5 x 6.1 x 3.9 cm (2.95 x 2.40 x 1.54 in)

An interesting Shigar Valley Aquamarine that is dominated by a single prismatic crystal, measuring a respectable 5.8 x 4.0 centimeters, that has a partially bevelled termination at its peak and healing across its underside. A second, smaller Aquamarine crystal juts out from the left side of the main crystal, showing multiple associations of black to brownish Shorl and two near pristine crystals of Fluorapatite at the tip; the Fluorapatite (up to 1.1 centimeters) will strongly fluoresce orange under UV light. If you look more closely at the center of the larger Aquamarine, a very well-formed and terminated crystal of Schorl rises upward, giving an extra dimensionality to the watery-clear Aquamarine. The back side of the specimen is covered in larger associations of Schorl and relatively small patches of white Albite and booklets of Muscovite. This piece comes with an engraved acrylic base.
