The "Cactus" Amethyst specimens out of South Africa, named for their subtly prickled exteriors, get their appearance from secondary (and even tertiary) "generations" of Quartz Amethyst that grew on top of the first large crystals that form the base of the cluster. This specimen has a beautiful lilac hue that is complemented by warm undertones due to Hematite inclusions. This is an uncommon and appealing version of the universally popular mineral.
