Description

Platinum Nugget - 43.6 Grams (1.40 Troy Ounces)
Nizhnyaya Tura
Sverdlovsk Oblast
Russia

Inherently rare, even compared to Gold, a Platinum Nugget is something extremely uncommon and very special. This superb example out of Russia is even more of a treasure - given it does not exhibit any of the effects of weathering, commonly seen in stream-worn specimens. This rather crystalline piece boasts a bright silvery coloration and a very gritty texture. The metallic mass weighs 1.40 troy ounces and measures 1.3 inches (3.3 cm) in length. A handwritten label, in addition to two historic labels, accompany the offering chronicling ownership by Gregory, Bottley & Lloyd of London as well as legendary East Coast collector J. H. (John) Marshall, Jr. noting his collection number "JHM 4304" and both stating the locality as Perm, Ural Mountains, Russia which was then revised to Tura River, near Perm, Sverdlovskaya Oblast, Middle Urals, Russia for a time. In excellent condition, this rarity, representing a type of nugget rarely seen in the market, belongs to a collection of very fine minerals.
Measurements: 1.28 x 0.84 x 0.67 inches (3.24 x 2.14 x 1.70 cm), weighs 43.6 grams (1.40 oz t)

Provenance: Private Collection, Oregon, USA, Ex. J. H. (John) Marshall, Jr., Collection #JHM 4304, Ex. Gregory, Bottley & Lloyd of London
