Of the few researchers who have broad expertise concerning Madagascan Minerals, Dr. Federico Pezzotta, Curator of Mineralogy at the Natural History Museum of Milano, is the acknowledged leader. His research and excavations on the island have resulted in numerous significant finds and an equally significant amount of papers, including one on the source locality for this specimen. This hefty matrix specimen traveled from Dr. Pezzotta's personal collection (confirmed by personal discussion), to Keith Proctor, and finally to the Hoppel Collection. It features 8+ twinned Titanite crystals of lime-green hue clustered in a tight group upon sparkling schist matrix liberally "dusted" with tiny Epidote prisms. The Titanites measure up to ~1.75 inches (4.2 cm) from tip to tip and are sharp, gemmy blades with sub-adamantine to waxy luster. Titanite was originally called "Sphene" from the Greek word for "wedge" because of the minerals similarity in shape, but that name has fallen out of favor with the boffins, but is still used informally. This significant cabinet specimen is in pristine condition.
    Overall measurements: 6 x 5 x 3 inches (15.2 x 12.7 x 7.6 cm). Offered at no reserve.
