    Description

    CUBANITE
Henderson No. 2 Mine, Chibougamau, Nord du Quebec, Quebec, Canada

A stunningly fine and large, classic Cubanite from the source of the best specimens of this exotic mineral known: the Henderson #2 Mine in Quebec. Quite possibly the largest crystal on record, this twinned 'six-ling' measures an enormous 1.5 inches (38 mm) across and can be displayed from either side. There are signs of attachment on the bottom edge, otherwise it looks to be almost a 'floater' crystal. Color and luster are brassy and metallic with traces of faint iridescence normal for material from this location. Heavily striated surfaces adorn the two major faces; this is also very typical of Henderson Mine material. Operated for copper off and on up to 1989, this property is currently closed and fresh supplies of this rare mineral are limited to material in collections. All in all this is a spectacular example of this very rare mineral. Minor nicking to some bottom edges, otherwise excellent condition.
    Overall measurements: 1.50 x 1.25 x .38 inches (3.8 x 3.2 x .95 cm). Offered at no reserve.

Provenance: Williams Minerals [Hoppel Catalog # D0693]

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
