Laurion District Mines
One of the more "showy" pieces of Laurion material is this Copper-infused Aragonite/Calcite group displaying the "Robin's Egg Blue" color, fading to white on one side. It is an immense plate with hundreds of "frost-like" translucent growths emerging from a matrix of massive Calcite, Azurite, and Malachite. The line between Calcite and Aragonite is not easily determined visually, since the composition of either mineral is the same, and the term tends to be used interchangeably. Luster is an odd mix of glassy and waxy, partially due to the small size of some of the crystal faces. It is in excellent condition, with only a couple of 'dings' around the edge and is surprisingly free of damage for such a significant museum-sized specimen. It comes with a custom stand.
