Typical of Art Smith's dedication to promoting mineralogical education is the fact that his efforts to advance this vital and fascinating field survived his passing. Art wanted to sponsor the printing of a new edition of John Sinkankas' classic Mineralogy for Amateurs. As a result, he asked that his personal, Sponsor Edition be auctioned with the proceeds going towards that goal.

His limited edition copy - number 40 out of the 90 in the edition - features a hand-sanded leather binding and hand tinted endpapers. It carries a bookplate inscribed with the 'Sponsor's Edition' designation and a calligraphically rendered inscription "Arthur E. Smith." It is our hope that the sale of this lot will provide much needed funds to complete his mission.
