    Xanthoxenite
    Dunton Gem Quarry
    Newry, Oxford Co.
    Maine, USA
    1.94 x 1.13 x 1.08 inches (4.93 x 2.88 x 2.74 cm)

    This piece of the rare calcium iron phosphate known as Xanthoxenite has a pronounced black and white coloration. This small example is basically a large, single crystal with a layered "mica-like" quality. While not striped per se, the black fibrous elements in the milky white rock give it an abstract "zebra" pattern. The partial, little, mountainous-shaped specimen has a flat reverse side which was likely a contact point.
