Jeffrey Mine (Johns-Manville Mine), Asbestos, Les Sources RCM, Estrie, Québec, Canada
Many lovely things have come from the Jeffrey Mine while it was being operated for Asbestos. Some of the most desirable of Jeffrey specimens were a variety of Vesuvianite colored a deep purple by Manganese incorporated in the crystal structure. The best of these show lustrous, striated faces and flat terminations, occasionally with small gemmy areas. There is no matrix, which is normal for most of these, and the specimen displays equally well from any direction. There may be spots where the piece was in contact with others nearby but it is very hard to tell where those spots might be, given the complexity of the piece.
Overall measurements: 2.19 x 1.19 inches (5.6 x 3.0 cm). Offered at no reserve.
Provenance: John Attard [Hoppel Catalog # D1801]
[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
