    Description

    TANZANITE

    Tanzanite
Merelani Hills, Lelatema Mts, Simanjiro District, Manyara Region, Tanzania

Anyone who has ever been on a cruise-ship now knows about Tanzanite. The same group has rarely seen the natural crystal before it is reshaped into something suitable for jewelry. The gemmy, single crystal of Tanzanite is a great example of what these things tend to look like when they are fresh from the mine. This one is "gemmier" than most, with clean areas that would furnish facet rough of good color. Something more easily observed in natural crystals, rather than cut gems, is the distinct differences in color visible when the crystal is rotated while lit from behind; Sapphire blue and reddish purple are two of the three Tanzanite colors easily seen with this technique. Traces of the original wall rock are included in the bottom of the crystal, but otherwise there is no matrix. Condition of this lustrous crystal is pristine with no apparent damage.
    Measurements: 1.4 x 0.7 x 0.6 inches (3.6 x 1.7 x 1.6 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

    Provenance: Rainbow of Africa Collection
