The color of Spessartine from the Little Three Mine is wholly unique to this find: even similar Spessartine crystals from other countries don't quite reach the brightness of this material. The color of this single crystal is a neon orange; its excellent coloration is partly due to the excellent transparency of the crystal, allowing light to pass through very easily. This crystal has an unusual shape at first glance, but there is no damage or chipping at all on the display side: instead, this complex form is caused by a variety of etching patterns, similar to the Spessartines of Navegadora. This etching yields a shimmery sheen and great luster. Supporting this single crystal is a lattice of Cleavelandite blades, very typical California matrix material, and the display side of the specimen has a single perpendicular blade of Cleavelandite that creates a smooth, flat face in the front. This is a specimen of unusual quality for California Spessartine, and a top-quality miniature example.
