Sri Lanka has been producing gems for as long as people have been collecting and polishing them. An occasional crystal escapes the cutters due to better than normal condition and/or unsuitable color. Here it seems that the lack of color saved this one from that fate. It combines classic, hexagonal form with exemplary transparency and luster. Lack of the usual stream damage has left the crystal in pristine condition. There is minor iron staining in some small fractures, but, otherwise, no matrix and no other minerals are present. It weighs 46.5 cts.
