St Andreasberg District, Harz, Lower Saxony, Germany

"A fine cluster of shiny black pyrargyrite crystals up to abut [sic] 3cm. I got this specimen in trade with the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. The specimen has a black on white number of 20203 on it and has an old Lazard Cahn label. The Museum got it from CD Woodhouse's collection."
    - Rock H. Currier

Well, besides being a honker of a Pyrargyrite specimen, it has provenance to burn. Any number of sophisticated collectors of European Silver minerals are going to have sinful thoughts over this group. As well they should. By and large, the miners of St. Andreasberg have all gone on to mining in Himmel, while we are left with but the few examples that have made it through the savage gauntlet of Time and Destruction. Truly, we are but caretakers for such rare bits of the past: a sobering thought to be sure. Offered with a custom acrylic stand and the original Lazard Cahn label.
    Overall Measurements: 2.0 x 1.6 x 1.0 inches (5.0 x 4.0 x 2.5 cm).
    Offered at no reserve

Provenance: Ex. Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History (trade 2002), Ex. C.D. Woodhouse, Ex. Lazard Cahn Collections [RHC #7634, acquired 2002]
