White Pine Mine, White Pine, Ontonagon County, Michigan, USA
This is a classic Michigan Native Silver specimen of arborescent form. It was collected at the White Pine Mine: one of the premier localities for Native Silver in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The delicate branching structures are composed of elongated cubic and octahedral crystals linked end to end to form feathery aggregates of surprising delicacy. There is a tiny amount of a black material, presumably a bit of the country rock, on the backside, but, otherwise, there is no matrix. The patina is a combination of silvery metallic with areas of tan oxidation. The piece is in pristine condition with no evident damage.
