    Description

    Ludlamite with Pyrite
Huanuni Mine, Huanuni, Dalence Province, Oruro, Bolivia

"A cluster of sharp pointed doubly terminated ludlamite crystals growing on a bit of matrix with a little pyrite. May be the best small specimen of this mineral."
    - Rock H. Currier

Huanuni has produced some truly fine Phosphate minerals and although probably best known for its Vivianites, it is also the source of the infrequently encountered cousin: Ludlamite. Ludlamite is also an Iron Phosphate, but its conditions of formation are much more constrained and examples are therefore quite a bit harder to come by. The matrix specimen seen here shows the classic 'diamond' habit commonly exhibited by the better examples seen in collections. Luster and the green coloration are entirely consistent with other known museum specimens. There is a small amount of accessory 'pyrite' on the tan matrix as well.
