Description
FluoriteOjuela Mine, Mapimí, Mapimí Municipality, Durango, Mexico
The Ojuela mine is a premier example for Hemimorphites and Wulfenites and the like, but one species that often gets overlooked from this locality is Fluorite. The fluorites of Ojuela Mine present as lustrous purple clusters, but this particular specimen, small but powerful, represents the best color that this locality has to offer. This Fluorite appears to have a general color gradation, with the largest of the crystals being a deep grape-jelly purple, which subtly transitions into a lighter blue towards the dissolution core on the bottom. The largest of the crystals, when held to a backlight, even feature even deeper purple phantoms within the core of each cube. The luster is shiny and satiny, offset by tiny deposits of druzy Quartz or Calcite that add a contrasting shimmer. This specimen is nearly pristine, with only two miniscule chips on the display side of the specimen. This specimen comes with a custom milled base.
