    Cinnabar on Dolomite
Chatian, Fenghuang Co., Xiangxi, Hunan, China

"A 30 mm sharp red cinnabar twin of perched up on a matrix of cream colored saddle shaped dolomite crystals. Bought it from a dealer in Changsha with other specimens."
    - Rock H. Currier

There was a time that fine Chinese Cinnabar specimens were scarce as hell. Then China went all out to mine anything of possible utility/saleability. Cinnabar being one of the ore minerals attracting the interest of both industry and the government, as well as Chinese medicine, it got the treatment just like the rest. That resulted in a flood of fine specimens at decent prices. That era is now closed, as anyone who has priced such things over the last decade cannot fail to notice. Carpe Cinnabaris. Need we say more? This miniature specimen features an outstanding, large, twinned Cinnabar crystal perched on top of contrasting white Dolomite.

It would indeed have been much simpler to work with a local auction house, and we had local options. But we never once regretted going with Heritage.
