This native gold nugget has an unusual appearance, almost as though gold leaf had been crushed and sculpted to form the profusion of dips and ridges, with natural apertures and protrusions so fragile they look as though they would detach at the slightest touch. But for a "soft" metal, gold is surprisingly hardy, and this natural sculpture retains the intriguing form given it by Mother Nature. It measures 3¾ x 2½ inches and weighs 267.3 grams (8.59 troy ounces).
