    Description

    Gold in Quartz
    Dolan Springs
    Mohave Co.
    Arizona, USA

This incredible Gold specimen from Arizona was, in fact, actually discovered using a metal detector by a prospector in 1989. Unfortunately, the treasure that Bud Guthrie had found ended up being well over a foot below ground requiring more than a bit of digging to extract what is one of the largest nuggets ever to come out of the Grand Canyon State. The superlative example, lovingly named "Fred" by its finder, is now the product of some necessary cleaning and trimming. The monster nugget is some 70 ounces and is estimated to contain some 60 ounces of Gold. This exceptional piece, from the well-documented find, has been featured in several magazine articles and mineral displays including being awarded the Copper medallion during the special Arizona Centennial exhibit at the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show. The trophy medallion accompanies this Lot. Presented on a custom base, this is a true one-of-a-kind piece with a great story. Photograph of Tucson display courtesy of Brian Kosnar.
    Overall Measurements: 5.5 x 3.5 x 3 inches (14 x 9 x 7.6 cm), total weight 2,197 grams
