Hogan Claim, Wickenburg, Arizona
In regular day or tungsten light, this looks like one big unpolished rock. However, turn on the short wave UV light and it springs immediately to life in a riot of seemingly impossible fluorescent colors. The most desirable fluorescent specimens are those that show more than two fluorescent minerals - this one boasts seven! Not all are visible under the same wavelength, but in various conditions one can detect calcite (red), willemite (yellow-green), fluorite (blue-violet), aragonite (white-cream), caliche (cream-orange), hydrozincite (blue-white) and three fluorescing colors of smithsonite (light pink, rose and pale blue). What is more, the parts which are pink and blue under shortwave light change to yellow under long wave. Dotted over the specimen are also tiny fluorescing crystals in a slightly different shade of blue, believed to be three polymorphs of zinc hydroxide - ashoverite, wulfingite and sweetite - and some small spots of bright orange which may well be clinohedrite. A truly spectacular piece, exceptional in its diversity and changeability, it is mounted on a rough-hewn rock base speckled with shimmering golden pyrite and stands 39 inches high.
The catalogue photo was taken under short wave UV light. As mentioned in the above description, other colors will appear under long wave and mid wave UV lighting.

    Estimate: $7,500 - $9,000.
