Description
Rutile in Smoky CitrineMinas Gerais, Brazil
10.6 cm in diameter (4.20 in)
Citrine is a type of Quartz known for its rich golden hue, and natural Citrine is one of the most sought-after varieties of Quartz, particularly if the color is deep and rich, as demonstrated in this gorgeous example from Brazil. The color is comparable to the deepest of ambers, and the refraction within the sphere throws light around the interior to brighten the Citrine and create an internal "fire." Suspended within the rich Citrine are dozens of long, thin Rutile crystals, which stand out against the deep background of the sphere. An interesting detail regarding the Rutile is that these crystals appear to have a thin, matte coating of an unidentified mineral, which allowed the Rutile, which is typically a dark mineral, to stand out.
Ex. Rob Sielecki collection.
