Collected and treasured for thousands of years as an ornamental jewelry stone, tiger eye is found today mainly in African and Australian copper belts. One of the very rarest varieties, however, is this multi-colored Marra Mamba material, found only in the blue crocidolite (asbestos) seams of the Hamersley Range in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. This incredible example of nature's abstract artistry is comprised of shimmering hematite, chatoyant tiger's eye and fossilized algae-derived stromatolite, layered in between colorful jasper in generous bands that seem to drip and flow into one another. A large and beautiful example, the slab is backed with a metal support and measures 38 ¾ x 16 1/8 x 3/8 inches.
