RHODONITE CRYSTALS
Morro da Mina Mine, Conselheiro Lafaiete (old Queluz de Minas), Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil
Rhodonite (MnSiO3) is a Manganese ore that is very rarely encountered as crystals, even more so as the large and perfectly formed example seen here. This piece was the single, best specimen mined from a Brazilian "crystal cave". It has four sharp and lustrous crystals, ranging in size up to a very respectable 3 inches. Close examination reveals that all four are aligned in a parallel fashion indicating that the specimen is really a single very large crystal, five inches across, with multiple terminations! Crystals of this size and perfection are almost never offered for public sale. The color is a deep cherry red, on the edge of being pink, and it measures 5 x 2¾ x 1½ inches. The condition is excellent with great form, luster and luscious color. It has a custom acrylic base.
