QUARTZ WITH INCLUSIONS OF PAPAGOITE, KAOLINITE, EPIDOTE & CHLORITE

Quartz has the endearing quality of often including other minerals that happen to grow on its crystal faces, while the Quartz is still in its growth phase. For reasons known only to Mother Nature, the Quartz Growth Express stopped long enough for delicate blue needles of the rare Copper mineral Papagoite to climb aboard, it then continued onward to further growth. The best extant examples of this combination were mined in 1985 and production has declined since then. Most of the crystals recovered required polishing of faces to remove an opaque coating that obscures the Papagoite from view. This example is one of the rare few that did not require such treatment. Its crystal faces are completely natural. The termination shows regrowth after minor damage sustained while still growing. In addition to the Papagoite, there are clouds of golden hued Kaolinite and an occasional green microcrystal of Epidote and/or "Chlorite." At various times the specimen was owned by Paul Botha, a South African mineral dealer, and was then acquired by collector J.R. Glover in 1997. As is typical for these Quartz specimens, it is without matrix, but it does come with a custom base to orient it properly. Overall measurements are 2 5/8 x 1½ x 2 inches and is in excellent condition.
