DEEP GOLDEN RED CALCITE ON SPHALERITE
Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Central Tennessee District, Smith Co., Tennessee, USA
A classic American mineral specimen, this single golden Calcite scalenohedron is anchored upright on a matrix of crystallized ruby red Sphalerite. The Elmwood Mine is considered to be among the top ten worldwide localities for this ubiquitous mineral. The rich golden color, the excellent luster and the association with finely crystallized Sphalerite immediately marks this as a classic Elmwood piece. This mirror bright crystal is 4 ¼ inches, shows interesting growth helices on the primary faces and is in excellent condition. Overall measurements are 4 x 5 x 5 1/8 inches and it sits on a custom labeled base. Ex George Feist collection.
