ARKANSAS DIAMOND COLLECTION

This collection consists of 35 diamonds ranging from pinhead size to 1.63 carats in weight. All of these diamond crystals are from the Crater of Diamonds near Murfreesboro, Arkansas, and were collected by the Norm Dawson family in the 1950's. The collection contains an assortment of colors, sizes and crystal habits: there is a Macle twin weighing 1.14 cts and at least one perfect octahedron; colors range from colorless to several that look to be "Fancy" in coloration. Norm Dawson was a prominent San Diego County miner who traveled to Arkansas when the Crater of Diamonds was still privately owned. This selection was collected in the 1950's over the course of multiple family vacations and a letter of authentication accompanies the lot. The Crater of Diamonds became a State Park in the 1970's and few documented Diamond crystals survive from earlier times. This many Diamonds from the locality, if found in one year, indeed would be a quite news item.
