Sapo Mine, Ferruginha, Conselheiro Pena, Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil

In 1997, a series of three pockets were uncovered in the Sapo Mine that disgorged some very large and colorful sprays of blue and pink Tourmaline. One of those pockets produced crystal groups referred to as "shaving brushes" for their obvious resemblance to that antiquated grooming aid. This "shaving brush" is the second largest of those found in that pocket. The central core and base of each crystal begins with a pink color that shifts for a short distance to colorless before assuming a blue-green tint continuing almost to the termination. At the termination, the blue-green color lightens suddenly to a much lighter pastel tint that makes the pyramidal terminations appear to have been 'dusted' with powdered sugar or snow. The group consists of numerous elongate prisms arranged in a sub-parallel group rising dramatically to a tapered finale. There are a few crystals along the sides without terminations but overall condition of this historic group is excellent. Comes with a custom acrylic base.
    Overall measurements: 13 x 5 x 4 inches (33 x 12.7 x 10.2 cm).
