    Pederneira mine
São José da Safira, Minas Gerais

Colorful Tourmaline specimens from Brazil's Pederneira Mine are justly famous for their elongated form and distinct and elegant coloration. This matrix specimen features six significant Tourmaline crystals and a number of secondary crystals. These well-formed, vibrant crystals appear to grow out from a bed of stark white, bladed Cleavelandite, clear Quartz and patches of tertiary pink Tourmaline. The gemmy, transparent crystals feature a calming blue-green hue with dark terminations. The longest crystal measures 3.14 inches (8 cm) in length. The overall aesthetics of this superb specimen creates a well-balanced, yet highly contrasting representation of the coveted material. This cabinet sized example is an ideal size and was mined back in 2010. Most examples, including this one, require some repair due to in pocket breakage. This breakage is not due to mishandling, but to ground movements during the millions of years that these specimens were enclosed in clay filled cavities. This superlative example has now been stabilized and expertly repaired. The gorgeous Tourmaline cluster is accompanied by an engraved custom acrylic base.
