Paprok Mine, Kamdesh District, Nuristan Province, Afghanistan

The "Paprok Mine" is actually a group of workings south of the village of Paprok that explore pegmatite zones within the local Triassic slates. Thirty distinct minerals come from this deposit with Tourmaline conceivably being the most "photogenic". This Paprok Tourmaline shows what the public likes to call "Watermelon" colors: pastel pink fading into a light, clean green tint. At 8.5 inches (21.6 cm) in height, this is definitely not a little specimen and considering the lack of damage and the fine, glassy luster, it would be a standout in any collection. Upper portions of the sub-parallel group are gemmy and transparent with terminations of a purplish-pink color, while lower sections bear the same colors but are lighter and translucent due to numerous microscopic inclusions. In excellent condition.
    Overall measurements: 8.5 x 3 x 3 inches (21.6 x 7.6 x 7.6 cm).

Provenance: Attard Minerals [Hoppel # D1623]
