Santa Rosa Mine, Itambacuri, Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Like a fallen log, this colorful Tourmaline is snugly positioned between two sharply euhedral Quartz crystals of somewhat stout form, the largest of which is 3.62 x 1.33 inches (9.2 x 3.4 cm) and is "double-terminated." There are several minor colorless Quartz crystals also present at various other places. The Quartz crystals show satin to briliantly glassy luster, and they are part of a mixed Feldspar/Lepidolite/Tourmaline matrix. The Tourmaline is 3.22 x 0.78 inches (8.2 x 2.0 cm), and it shows a medium pink core with greenish blue exterior and termination, going to colorless in its final stages. There are a couple of places where smaller Tourmalines have broken off; otherwise, condition of the specimen is fine to excellent. It is accompanied by a custom labeled base.
    Overall measurements: 4.6 x 4.6 x 3.3 inches (11.8 x 11.7 x 8.5 cm)
