Description
TOURMALINE & QUARTZPaprok, Kamdesh District, Nuristan Province, Afghanistan
A massive matrix, combining clouds of Cleavelandite blades with intermingled Smoky Quartz crystals, is the launching pad from which these two Tourmalines erupt. Of the two major crystals, the larger is 2.36 inches (6 cm) high and 1.81 inches (4.6 cm) across, and the smaller one is 1.96 x 0.78 inches (5 x 2 cm). Both show colors of pastel pink at the base with exteriors and terminations of bright green. When illuminated from above, the crystals show anywhere from a slight yellow tint under daylight, to an intense yellow color under incandescent light. Terminations are brilliantly glassy as are the sides of the Tourmaline. A minor amount of Lepidolite shows up on the side of the main crystal; otherwise, nada mas. There is a tiny nick to the termination of one Quartz; otherwise, the specimen is in pristine condition.
Overall measurements: 7.5 x 4.2 x 4.7 inches (19 x 10.6 x 12 cm)
Illustrated: Fong/Walker, M., Neumeier, G., & Walker, J. (Eds.). (2015). The World of Tourmaline: The Gerhard Wagner Collection. Dallas, Texas: Ivy Press. Page 69.
