Mogok, Sagaing District, Mandalay Division, Myanmar (Burma)

This is an auction item to benefit Every mineral collector on planet knows (or they should): it is the largest non-commercial online mineralogical database on the internet; everybody in the mineral community uses it (not an exageration). It is totally free but it depends on the goodwill and support of its users in order to maintain itself as a 501(c)3 educational charity. This fine mineral specimen was donated by Daniel Trinchillo with the understanding that all proceeds from its sale will go directly to support Now for a description of this specimen:

This is a rarely seen example of a double terminated Topaz crystal, from Mogok, Burma. At just under 4.5 inches (11.4 cm), it is considerably larger than average, and it shows distinct hemimorphic development displaying terminal faces that are quite dissimilar in shape. One end, features the familiar "chisel" or "wedge" type of termination; while the other shows several, second order faces, which are less frequently encountered. Several spots on the Topaz host inclusions of platy, white Cleavelandite and there are a small number of silvery "negative crystals" along with some dark, needlelike inclusions of, probably, Rutile or an Iron Oxide. Luster is brilliantly glassy and condition is almost pristine, with but a tiny, tiny "wilber" to one termination edge. It has a custom display stand, which allows the viewer to see both terminations simultaneously.
    Overall Measurements: 4.4 x 2.1 x 3.8 inches (11.3 x 5.2 x 9.7 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

    Estimate: $8,000 - $10,000.
