Agrigento (Girgenti), Agrigento Province, Sicily, Italy
The Sulfur specimens of Sicily have long been considered the best that the world can provide. One of the distinctive things about Sicilian specimens is the tendency for the specimens to show large, stout single crystals on a Calcite/Aragonite matrix. Here we have a 1.7 inch (4.3 cm) Sulfur crystal growing on the side of an off-white matrix of mixed druzy Calcite and massive banded Sulfur. The combination is in pristine condition and is freestanding.
Overall Measurements: 4.0 x 2.0 x 2.75 inches (10.16 x 5.08 x 6.99 cm)
Offered at no reserve.
Provenance: George Witters [Hoppel #D1545]
