    Description
Spodumene var. Kunzite (Twinned)Laghman, Afghanistan
12.3 x 7.3 x 2.3 cm (4.85 x 2.88 x 0.89 in)
Unlike the vast majority of Kunzite specimens, this single, large crystal has no etching whatsoever: the termination is smooth and facet-like on all sides. Etching is considered to be an attractive feature in Kunzite, but to have one without etching is far rarer. Instead, the termination is made up of smooth faces, some of which being the result of modification, and most importantly, a very distinct twinning plane that presents as a straight groove. It is very uncommon to see twinning in Kunzite, particularly when it is this well-defined and distinct all the way through. This crystal is also very very transparent, to the point where you can easily read text through the prism. This is only obstructed by the many parallel striations that extend up the length of the Kunzite. The color is great, particularly down the C and B axes, a clean, strong violet-pink.
