Beginning in the late 1990s, collectors were captivated by a new source of exceptional Spessartite Garnet specimens emerging from Granite-rich outcrops in Fujian Province, China. These striking minerals are recovered from discrete pockets and narrow mineralized veins by a dedicated group of local miners working exclusively to unearth fine collector-grade material. This particularly aesthetic specimen features several well-formed Smoky Quartz crystals, the largest measuring 4.5 cm in length, with a dramatic overgrowth of lustrous Spessartite Garnet crystals in vivid dark orange-red hues. The contrasting color palette-the inky black of the Quartz against the fiery Garnet-creates a visually dynamic presentation, emblematic of the finest specimens from the Wushan locality. The cabinet specimen is presented on a custom acrylic base.
