    Description

    Smithsonite
    Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb
    Oshikoto Region (Otjikoto Region)
    Namibia

This is a very stout offering of Smithsonite. This large example hails from the famed Tsuemb Mine in Namibia. The massive matrix piece is completely covered in well-formed oatmeal-colored crystals. Due to the light pink coloration of the matrix, the crystals near the periphery have a slight pink tinge. The Smithsonite crystals formed as large rhombohedrals in unwieldly clusters. They are extremely lustrous and display nice translucency, with a unique color "zoning" habit where the edges of the crystals are a light yellow hue, acting like a natural highlight. There is a collection sticker on the bottom which reads "WLH0233." This is a highly collectible piece, not only because of its sheer size, form and locality, but also because of its unique color and crystal habit.
