Sweetwater Mine (Milliken Mine), Ellington, Viburnum Trend Dist., Reynolds Co., Missouri, USA
Although Missouri is not a hotbed of Cobalt or Nickel production, there are occasional discoveries of minerals containing both of these elements: Siegenite being one of them. Here it appears as small octahedral crystals of a bright, steely luster mixed into a 'frosting' of white Dolomite crystals and a smattering of dark, bronze-hued Chalcopyrite clusters; all of the above coating a matrix of massive sulfide ore. Damage is very minimal and confined to the edges of the piece. This is a notable cabinet specimen of this rare mineral.
Overall measurements: 7 x 5 x 3.5 inches (17.8 x 12.7 x 8.9 cm). Offered at no reserve.
Provenance: Dan Weinrich [Hoppel Catalog # D1862]
[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
