Mt. Xuebaoding, Pingwu Co., Mianyang Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China

China may be a nominally "communist" country, but pure, naked capitalism is the reason that this huge Scheelite specimen hasn't been converted into cutting tools for #4 Heavy Industries Shipyard and Tractor Factory, which is where bad Scheelites go when they die. Unless you have seen the conditions at the mine, the sheer difficulty of guaranteeing that any given specimen makes it down the mountain and out to 'The World' intact and undamaged is not apparent. Difficulty of extraction aside, what we have here is an absolute killer of a Scheelite specimen with a main crystal group over 4 inches (10.16 cm) in height. The simple octahedral crystals display the warm honey coloration typical to this material, and their luster is also the typical vitreous to adamantine one normal to Scheelite. The matrix consists of a mix of colorless euhedral Beryl, silvery Muscovite blades and massive Quartz. Like the Scheelite, the other matrix minerals are in excellent to pristine condition. This is a very large example of this mineral, whether from this locality or any other.
    Overall Measurements: 5.43 x 3.58 x 5.03 inches (13.8 x 9.1 x 12.8 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

    Provenance: Western Minerals [Hoppel #D1638]

    Estimate: $25,000 - $30,000.
