Description
ROSE QUARTZ on QUARTZLavra Berilo Branco, Sapucaia do Norte, Galiléia, Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Playing the Infanta Rosa to the Madona of the same hue, this roseate bit of crystalline splendor used to grace the collection of noted scientist, author, explorer, curator and technical adviser to the "G-Men" of the FBI - Fred Pough, now deceased. It was during one of his numerous trips to Brazil that this wonder surfaced. Except for size, it stands toe to toe with the Madona Rosa, showing the same deep pink color and large crystals of that iconic piece. The Rose Quartz appears to have been deposited in two phases, the earlier one deposited Rose Quartz of a deeper, more saturated color and greater transparency on a fragment of normal Quartz with inclusions of Muscovite. The later one produced larger crystals of a slightly less saturated color. Luster is uniformly bright and condition is pristine. The cluster displays equally well from all sides on its custom acrylic base. Comes with a Fred Pough collection label.
Overall measurements: 3.89 x 3.82 x 2.15 inches (9.9 x 9.7 x 5.5 cm).
Provenance: Western Minerals, ex. Fred Pough Collection [Hoppel # D0600]
