This specimen is simply a world-class example from, arguably, the most important locality in the United States for collectible minerals - the Sweet Home Mine, in Colorado, that has produced the unbelievable Rhodochrosite material which has truly captivated collectors for nearly 30 years. Mined back in 2004 by Graham Sutton and Doug Wallace, this specimen features one massive singular rhombohedral crystal of the "gemmy" watermelon-red mineral perched almost in the middle of an intricate matrix featuring the associated minerals of Fluorite, Tetrahedrite, and Sphalerite. The outstanding and well-formed crystal is one of the largest from the locality, measuring some 2.16 inches (5.5 cm). This association also includes an amazing crop of fibrous Quartz crystals. This is a true classic Sweet Home "Rhodo" with pretty much everything that could be desired in a collectible example from the famed locality. This bona fide cabinet specimen is an impressive representative of the mineral that is a "must" for any significant collection to be considered complete. The superb mineral is free of damage although the crystal has been reattached to the matrix, which is rather common with such material. The piece is presented on a custom engraved acrylic base to facilitate the most ideal orientation. The rock was mined a month before the mine closed.
