"Scepter" Quartz crystals don't typically form in pegmatite deposits, which is why this rather hefty example deserves special attention. The proof of its pegmatitic origin is in the pink Tourmaline, associated lilac Lepidolite, and a matrix of pale blue bladed Cleavelandite that anchored it to the wall of the pegmatite cavity. The shaft of the scepter shows a very pale smoky tint and where the crystal enlarges the coloration becomes much darker. The complex 'head' of the scepter displays what are called "fensters" - German for "windows": places where crystal growth at the edges of the crystal faces outstripped the growth in the center of the faces, leaving voids in the planar surfaces. The Quartz is quite transparent and lustrous, especially where the darker Quartz resides. Overall condition is quite excellent.
    Overall measurements: 7.5 x 4 x 3.5 inches (19.1 x 10.2 x 8.9 cm).

    Provenance: Collector's Edge [Hoppel # D1355]

    Estimate: $3,500 - $4,500.
